Since I’ve manifested traveling to over 30 countries – I want to get honest and open with you, so that you can do it too. To be frank, I use the steps outlined below in different ways and sometimes not all at once, but the end result is always travel.
So, let’s make your travel dreams a reality!
How to Manifest Travel: The Ultimate Guide to Turn Your Travel Dreams into Reality
1. Set Clear Intentions
Start by visualizing your dream destination: To do this, create a vision board with quotes, images, and elements of your travel destination on a board you can see daily. Once, you’ve completed your vision board, spend a few minutes each day imagining yourself at your chosen destination. Think about the sights, sounds, and what it feels like to be there.
When I dreamt of visiting Thailand, I used to imagine sitting under the shade on a beach eating green Thai curry with my feet in the sand. Guess what? I did pretty much that on Phi-Phi island during my first-ever solo trip backpacking through Southeast Asia.
Write down a detailed description of your travel plans: Journaling is a great way to manifest travel into your life. Write down, where you want to go, what city, what you want to do, the dates, and who you want to travel with.
After our honeymoon trip to Russia to watch the Soccer World Cup 2018 – we ended off in Turkey. I remember visiting the Library of Celsius in Ephesus and saying to myself, “Next year I want to visit Jordan to see Petra.” After I got home from my trip, I wrote down my desire to visit Petra in my journal along with my travel plans for 2019.
I had a picture printed of Petra on my vision board to go along with various journal entries which turned traveling to Jordan into reality.
If you don’t like to journal. Don’t sweat it. Instead, write down your ideal trip in an email to yourself or on a piece of paper. Now and then write another email to yourself about your trip desires. Add to it, change it – but don’t lose sight of it.
Set SMART goals: When you’re writing down your desires make sure to include how you intend to achieve your travel goal. SMART goals are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. For example, when I was planning my 2019 euro trip with my husband, we knew that to visit 7 countries, we’d have to travel light and budget well.
I wrote down a goal of saving $1000 each month until our trip. I did exactly this which let me pay off our travel credit card and we managed to stay within budget.
To reap the benefits of your manifestation, get crystal clear with your intentions.
2. Align Your Goals
Focus on financial planning: manifesting isn’t about wishing things into existence from thin air (as wonderful as this sounds). It does take some work, especially when it requires money. You can check out my post on manifesting money to further aid you with this step of your travel equation.
Budgeting and saving are two big factors when it comes to manifesting travel. Begin by creating a travel budget that includes flights, accommodation, food, and activities. You can create your own Excel document to keep track of expenses. Before any trip, I always crunch numbers in Excel. To help you with budgeting, I made a travel budget worksheet you can copy into an Excel sheet or use directly.
Once you have decided on a budget, your next step is to start saving. With each pay cheque – how much do you think you can put aside for your dream trip? Create a travel fund and dedicate some money to it on a bi-weekly or monthly basis, so that you can actively reach your goal. If I’m saving for a big trip, I try and cut back on non-essential expenses to give my savings a little boost.
Create a plan: research your dream destination, look into the best travel time, and attractions, find travel deals, and learn about your destination through blogs, books, or documentaries. Sign up for travel credit cards to reap the benefits of using points for booking future travels. I’ve paid for my many flight tickets across the globe using points alone. Nomadic Matt and Daily Drop have great resources to help you plan your travels, so I’d recommend checking them out.
I always say, that manifesting isn’t about simply wishing things into existence – it requires goal and mindset alignment to be successful.
3. Use Affirmations and Positive Thinking
Create a daily affirmation practice: affirmations are one of the best ways to manifest things. If you need guidance on affirmations – I have many dedicated posts that you should check out. In regards to travel affirmations, think of phrases that are true to you.
I love speaking things into existence by mixing in affirmations for things that have not yet happened. For example, you could affirm something like “I am in love with this travel experience and the joy that it brings me.” Even if you have not yet set out on your trip, speak it into reality. Another example could be “I love the way the air feels as I walk these streets in Asia.”
You can switch between, past, present, and future tense when speaking affirmations into your life. So, don’t be afraid to experiment and if you need guidance be sure to check out my posts on affirmations. I’d recommend writing your travel affirmations on sticky notes and placing them somewhere in daily view.
Stay positive and truly believe that you will achieve your dream vacation. Reframe any negative thoughts on traveling into positive ones that you actually believe. If you choose to share your travel dreams with others then be sure it is with supportive friends and family, or a community that encourages your travel goals.
4. Take Inspired Action
Carpe Diem: Basically, seize the moment. For instance, sometimes you can plan and plan and plan – which is completely fine but it might mean you don’t end up where you want to be.
I’m not saying quit your job and just run off into the world (sigh). Rather, make some intuitive decisions when opportunities arise. Recently, my husband booked us a trip to Italy for dirt cheap, because an opportunity presented itself.
When you’re ready, the universe will conspire to bring you what you desire. So be proactive in looking for travel discounts or events to network with others who share your interests, and keep your eyes peeled for travel deals. You can manifest traveling to your dream destination by taking action to get yourself one step closer.
5. Stay Motivated
Celebrate small wins: if you save money somewhere along the way or tackle a task like booking a refundable hotel – celebrate it! Every step is getting you closer to living your travel dreams. To stay motivated, treat yourself. For example, whenever I am preparing to visit a new country and I’ve completed a task associated with that trip – I like to treat myself to a specialty coffee or a nice glass of wine. I make sure the expense is minimal but I also like to stay motivated by rewarding myself for almost turning my next travel experience into a reality. Recognize and appreciate your progress, however, it may look to you.
Practice gratitude: I will say stating things that you are grateful for daily doesn’t mean you will magically step into an alternate universe. If it’s forced or feels like a simple routine – it’s not going to land, where it should. Take your time and think about one thing you are grateful for today – write it down and hold that energy. Often, when I’m planning a big trip, I find that I’m constantly grateful for the privilege of travel – it’s not lost on me how lucky I am. Not everyone has passport privilege.
Bonus Tip: Release Attachment
Let it go. That’s the big secret but a tough act to follow. Obsessing over anything isn’t going to help you get it faster or sooner. Trust the universe will deliver the best travel experience possible and let go of your attachment to the outcome.
My trip to Thailand came at a time when I had just finished my postgraduate diploma and I was looking for an escape. I would spend hours of my day looking at travel deals, reading blog posts, and skimming social media of travels in Thailand. A year after I secured a job, I snagged a deal to Vietnam which then led me… you guessed it – to Thailand.
I didn’t obsess over how I would get there or what I would do, I hoped I would – I planned for it and I let the universe lead me there.
Manifesting travel involves setting clear intentions, aligning your goals, positive thinking taking inspired action, and staying motivated. Use the above steps to shift your mindset and turn your travel dreams into reality. Don’t settle for anything less – start manifesting right now.
There isn’t one right way to manifest travel – it’s just a matter of taking it into your hands and molding the life you desire. I always lead with gratitude because not everyone has the opportunity to experience life this way. Unfortunately, you can’t control systematic inequality, rather, it’s about developing a focus on the things that are within your power and taking actionable steps.
Be open, trust the process, and happy travels!
